
In Gender-based Violence in Haryana, India: A review of patterns and responses, and the way forward Humphrey Fellow Rakesh Arya, an officer of the Indian Police Service in Haryana, will discuss the trends in gender-based violence, reactions from the media and civil society, policy responses from the government and the way forward to deal with this pertinent social issue with a focus on a law enforcement perspective. About the speaker: Humphrey Fellow Rakesh Arya has been an officer of the Indian Police Service for 15 years and currently the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Administration and Training for the Haryana Police. As District Head of Police, he worked on the issues of crimes against women and women’s empowerment. Rakesh holds a Master’s in Philosophy from Jawahar Lal University, a Master of Arts (Economics) from Kurukshetra University, and a Bachelor’s Degree from Dronacharya Government College.
