The Foundation was created 20 years ago by the East-West Institute with the support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation shortly after the vast political changes in Eastern Europe. It’s an example of local indigenous communities working to support democratic principles, economic development, cross-border and inter-ethnic collaboration on a regional level to help build a stable and democratic Europe. About the speaker: Laura Dittel is a Humphrey Fellow from the Slovak Republic. She is the Director/CEO of the Carpathian Foundation, a regional non-profit organization that provides financial support, training, and advisory services to non-profits and citizens in order to help improve living conditions in Eastern Slovakia.
