12 songs and narrative passages to give a brief version of the Story of Parzival based on the 12 century epic poem by the Bavarian knight Wolfram von Eschenbach.
The Pieces for Parzival's Story started with Julie Groves one day showing off her newly acquired Flute with an extra note in the lower register. I , Gregers, was so taken with the sound that I found myself that same afternoon composing a piece for her and calling it Anfortas' Dream (the ailing Grail King in the Story by Wolfram von Eschenbach). The title came after the piece and although it seemed random at the time it led to 5 Solo flute pieces and 12 songs being composed all relating to the Parzival story. The Songs were composed in July 2010 with the help of Lindsay Clarke who wrote the poems. I had read his version of the Parzival story a few years back and was very taken with it. When Julie asked for more Parzival related pieces I remembered of him so contacted him to see if he was willing to pen some poems to which I could set music. He completed 12 poems within a week and the music was more or less finished within 2 weeks of that. A few months later the narrative too was ready.
